BambooXmas is the family tree. You decide what the tree should be used for, or what meaning it will have for you and your family. There are 24 branches, which can act like a calendar. The design is modular in the quality-conscious Scandinavian tradition. It has a myriad of uses, from being the family tree to being a coat stand and everything in between.

The bamboo tree is a sustainable alternative to both the traditional and the artificial Christmas tree.
The tree is carbon negative, i.e., it absorbs more carbon from the atmosphere than it costs to produce and transport. Our tree is intended to use for a minimum of 20 years, as opposed to traditional wood which is a use-and-throw-away item with all that it entails.

Did you know that we produce 10 million Christmas trees in Denmark annually? Most are transported long distances all over the world, and in Denmark, we consume 1.5 million trees every Christmas.

Bamboo is a unique material: It is one of the world’s fastest-growing organisms and also the world’s strongest natural material. Certain varieties are comparable to concrete and steel in strength.
No pesticides, artificial fertilizers, or artificial irrigation are used for growing bamboo. And after harvesting, the plant continues to grow, unlike chopped-down trees. Most wood materials can be replaced by bamboo.
Our mission is to spread awareness of bamboo and its uses.

A tree for life and future generations

The bamboo tree is not just a Christmas tree. It is also a base for creativity and application, where only your imagination sets the limits. Branches can be placed as you like and have significance for family members and generations. You might want to remember grandpa or let the little ones choose a branch on the tree for Christmas – and grow up with an attachment to this particular tree for years to come.

But branches can also just be a practical tool to hang your coat on, as a lamp stand, a flagpole, decoration, or whatever you imagine.

Bamboo Christmas tree

Bamboo is a fantastic fast-growing natural material. It is very strong and stable. Bamboo is widely used for everything from building scaffolding to furniture, textiles, and paper to “wooden floors”. Our tree is untreated and processed with the least possible processing from full-grown (3-year-old) Dendrocalamus Strictus, which is one of the world’s strongest bamboos and almost massive.

Natural materials can have different characteristics and will always be different in their unprocessed form. That’s why all our trees are unique, just like a traditional Christmas tree with needles – just without needles to clean up. Untreated wood “works” according to humidity, temperature, and dryness, which is why adjustments are a natural part of owning a bamboo Christmas tree.

Sustainable Christmas tree

The Bambooxmas tree is a sustainable alternative to both the traditional and the artificial Christmas tree. Our wood is carbon negative, i.e., it absorbs more CO² from the atmosphere than it costs to produce and transport. Bamboo absorbs the same amount of CO² per kg in 3 years (harvest-ripe), as a coniferous Christmas tree does in 10 years (harvest-ripe). This means the conversion of CO² takes place 3 times as fast. In addition, the bamboo plant continues to grow after harvesting it, unlike a traditional Christmas tree.

A bamboo Christmas tree is not sprayed with environmental toxins. All bamboo is treated with boric acid (including your flower sticks), which is a natural substance that already exists in the soil environment. No artificial irrigation, artificial fertilizers, or pesticides are used to grow bamboo. Our manufacturer uses sun drying instead of oven drying, which reduces production emissions. In addition, the factory is located at the plantation itself, which minimizes transport in connection with the production.

With a lifespan of 10 times longer than a traditional Christmas tree, we save the environment from significant amounts of carbon and environmental toxins.

In Denmark, 10 million Christmas trees are produced annually. Most of them are exported on long-term transports to the rest of the world – some even as far as the Middle East.

We consume 1.5 million natural Christmas trees annually in Denmark alone.

Bambooxmas is a business partner with the organization The Forests of the World (Verdens Skove), and you support the Forests of the World with DKK 20 (Approx. 2.7 EUR) for each tree purchased, which corresponds to the preservation of approx. 47 m² of rainforest.

Safety

The bamboo tree is very difficult to set on fire, as bamboo has a very high density and no dry needles.

A lot of coniferous Christmas trees, standing in the living room and drying out, catch fire. Unfortunately, this has many tragic consequences every year.

Health

A traditional coniferous Christmas tree brings a lot of “goofiness” into the living room. Also, insects, pesticides, microorganisms, and other small things that can affect hypersensitivity and the indoor environment.

The bamboo tree emits no substances and is treated with a harmless natural agent against insects and organisms. The bamboo surfaces are resistant to most things and can be easily wiped with a damp cloth.

Ornaments

Nothing changes in a single day, and sustainability is also about using what you have and taking care of that. We work towards creating decorations that have the same sustainability profile as our tree.

Unfortunately, we didn’t make it in time for Christmas 2022 – but we’re looking out for 2023. So use your fine heirlooms, the fun, homemade stuff, and all the wild creativity when you decorate the tree for Christmas. But try to avoid buying more plastic gizmos and other environmentally damaging Christmas items – ever again.
